Boom is an AI-native platform for commercial credit underwriting. We help banks and insurers turn complex financial data into structured insights they can use to evaluate businesses 5x faster. Today, we offer AI-powered financial spreading, risk analysis, and credit memo generation. Our long-term vision is to become the core system financial institutions rely on to manage commercial credit risk.

Boom is an early-stage software company founded by repeat founders with strong early traction: $100k+ in new ARR per month since launch (Dec 2025), $130k average ACV on closed deals, $261k average ACV across our pipeline, zero churn, and a 75 NPS. As we grow, we are looking for our first Principal Engineer.

About the Role
You'll own broad technical direction, work hands-on in the codebase, and partner directly with the CTO and CDAO to shape the future of our platform and product. This role is for an expert in their craft who has leadership experience but wants to stay deep in the code as an IC.

What You'll Do

• Drive technical architecture and system design across the entire engineering organization

• Lead development of large product features and initiatives

• Mentor and raise the bar for senior and staff engineers through code reviews, pairing, and design guidance

• Partner directly with the CTO and CDAO on technical strategy and roadmap

• Contribute to hiring by assessing senior technical talent

What We're Looking For

• 12+ years of professional software engineering experience (10+ considered for exceptional candidates)

• Deep demonstrated expertise across multiple domains

• Track record of designing and shipping complex systems at scale

• Comfortable operating across the full stack when needed

• Experience working with TypeScript, Python, SQL, AWS

• Excellent written and verbal communication — you can explain complex tradeoffs clearly to both engineers and leadership

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with GQL, SQS, Temporal, Agentic AI
